A Revert Beginners Guide To Islam


Islam is a lifelong journey DO NOT RUSH to learn everything at once.

Many reverts burn out by trying to do too much too soon . I say this with all the love in my heart take it easy

Feel free to use my "Revert Muslimah Checklist" to track your progress and pace yourself.

Focus on the basics first, then build gradually Inshallah (If Allah wills)


1. HOW TO BECOME A MUSLIMAH


Recite the Shahada:

The first and most important step is to declare your faith in the Oneness of Allah and the Prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH).




"Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wa ash hadu anna Muhammaddan rasulullah."




Translation: "I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, and Prophet Muhammad (saw) is His Messenger.





While you may have already embraced this in your heart, it's important to say it out loud. It’s recommended to say it in the presence of witnesses or an imam, but your sincere belief in your heart is what matters most.



2. LEARN THE 5 PILLARS OF ISLAM


Shahada (Faith): Keep recitingit regularly as a reminder of your belief.


Salah (Prayer): Learn how to perform the five daily prayers, starting with Fajr. Master wudu (ablution) and the basic prayer steps.


Zakat (Charity): While not immediately required, understand that 2.5% of savings is given to the needy annually.


Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan): Learn the rules of fasting from dawn to sunset and its spiritual significance.


Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca): A once in a lifetime obligation for those who are physically and financially able start learning about its importance.


3. LEARN THE 6 PILLARS OF FAITH


  • Belief in Allah : He is One, without partners.
  • Belief in Angels : Created by Allah, they carry out His commands.
  • Belief in the Books : Quran, Torah, Gospel, Psalms ..
  • Belief in the Messengers : From Adam to Muhammad (PBUH)
  • Belief in the Day of Judgment : Accountability for deeds in the Hereafter.
  • Belief in Qadr (Divine Decree) : Everything happens by Allah’s will.


4. UNDERSTAND YOUR PURPOSE


  • Worship Allah : Our main purpose (Quran 51:56).
  • Seek Knowledge : Learn and grow in faith.
  • Develop Good Character : Be kind, patient, and honest.
  • Follow the Quran & Sunnah : Live according to Islamic teachings.
  • Be a Positive Influence : In family and society.
  • Prepare for the Afterlife : Work towards Jannah


5. START LEARNING HOW TO PRAY


  • How many prayers there are in a day
  • How many rakahs (unit) there are in each prayer (even if you dont know what a rakah is yet.)
  • How to make wudu (ablution) / why we make wudu
  • What the adhan signals and the meaning of each line
  • What breaks your wudu / salah
  • The conditions of salah e.g. place of prayer /clothes of prayer /direction of prayer
  • The steps of prayer (including what a rakah is)

6. LEARN HOW TO READ THE QURAN


  • What the Quran is
  • Who the Quran is from
  • Who recieved the Quran
  • The purpose of the Quran
  • How to read the Quran
  • How the Quran was revealed

7. EXTRA KNOWLEDGE


  • Everyday duas
  • The stories of the Prophets
  • The attributes of Allah
  • Surahs in the Quran
  • Learn about the Angels
